You may be wandering, how global warming is going to propel the price of the chocolates to the northward direction. The delicious chocolate we are eating now is made up of cocoa, a crop highly cultivated in western African region. Cocoa crop is highly sensitive to the change in atmospheric temperature. Even a slight increase in the atmospheric temperature is going to hit the cocoa crop badly. If, we believe the green news, then the temperature of the world is going to go up and if the temperature is going up then the cocoa production is going to dip.
The cocoa crop is now struggling with various kinds of diseases. Millions of cocoa trees have been cut down in recent past to prevent the spared of a fatal virus. Cocoa cultivators are now also going for some unsustainable practices to meet the huge demand for the crop. They are planting trees in clumsy spaces and that leads to poorly grown trees. These weak cocoa trees are finding it difficult to keep safe from various types of disease.
On the other hand, demand for chocolate is growing in an exponential pace. There was a day, when chocolates were only meant for the kids, but now 6-60, all love to go for chocolates. Though, the cost of the chocolate is not less now, but people are not caring the price tag of the chocolate now, as they are earning more money now. Lower production coupled with high demand is going to play the spoilsport. We will find the price at sky high, in near future.
That day is not far, when you have to think twice before going to buy a chocolate. Yes, it could be treated as a blessing in a disguise, as you will not add more pounds to your body mass, just by eating chocolates.
